Come celebrate Junior Ranger Day on Apr. 25

LAS VEGAS - Lake Mead National Recreation Area will celebrate National
Junior Ranger Day, Saturday Apr. 25 with a day of fun family activities.

This is the second year that Junior Ranger Day is being celebrated as part
of National Park Week. Junior Ranger Day activities will be held from 10
a.m.-3 p.m at the Alan Bible Visitors Center just off US 93, three miles
past Boulder City heading toward Hoover Dam. more...

Bailey Middle School Students Visit Lake Mead NRA

LAS VEGAS (April 1, 2009) - Students from Bailey Middle School in Las Vegas will be producing short films about their experiences at Lake Mead. The films will be used for National Park Service youth outreach efforts.

The funds for this project were made available for outreach projects that coincide with the release of Ken Burns' new film, "The National Parks: America's Best Idea," that will air this fall on PBS. Students from Bailey Middle School are featured in an “Untold Stories” segment of the film.


The three to five minute short films will debut at a film festival at Dr.
William H. (Bob) Bailey Middle School the evening of May 27.


This digial story telling project is a partnership between Clark County
School District and the National Park Service. Funding for this project came in part from grants from the National Park Foundation through the generous support of the Evelyn and Walter Hass Jr. Fund, funds from Western National Parks Association and donation of supplies by REI of Henderson, NV

Veterans and Military Visit Lake Mead for free

LAS VEGAS - The National Park Service will be waiving entrance fees for current military members, veterans, and their families at all parks that charge entrance fees, including Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. To thank them for their service, attractions that operate in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area (NRA) will be offering discounts on food, rentals, and excursions...more

Controlled burn for tamarisk (080926-NPS-HORNE-005)

LAKE MEAD NRA, Nev. (Sept. 26, 2008) – National Park Service fire management personnel conduct a controlled burn in the Valley of Fire wash near Overton, Nev. in the northern portion of Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
